Sister Betty Marie Dunkel, D.C.

Sister Betty Marie is a member of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul and is currently the Executive Director at the Epiphany Center in San Francisco. She has both a Masters in Social Work and a Master’s in Public Administration and recently served on the Provincial Council for the Daughters of Charity Province of the West as Councilor of Social Ministries.

Prior to her appointment to the Provincial Council, Sister Betty Marie served as Maryvale’s Executive Director from December 2005 until February 2009. Sister Betty Marie served in residential treatment centers for 24 years, starting out in childcare at Maryvale; and has held positions as Assistant Executive Director at Mt. St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth’s in San Francisco and Executive Director at St. Vincent’s in Santa Barbara. She served as the Executive Director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico for nine years.

Sister Betty Marie has served on numerous Boards during her 50 years as a Daughter of Charity: St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Los Angeles, O’Connor Medical Center in San Jose, Mt. St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth in San Francisco, Seton Medical Center in Daly City and St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood. In addition to Maryvale, she currently serves on the Boards at St. Vincent’s in Santa Barbara, Villa Caridad in Santa Barbara, Mt. St. Joseph-St. Elizabeth’s in San Francisco, and on the Corporate Boards of the Daughters of Charity Health System and the Daughters of Charity Ministry Services Corporation. She is also on the Boards of Vincentian Services Corps in Daly City, Life Sharing, Inc. in Tuba City, Arizona, Rosalie Rendu Center in East Palo Alto, and Give Me a Chance, Inc. in Ogden, Utah.

Sister has been a member of Maryvale’s Board of Directors at various times throughout the past 30 years, and currently since 2009.
