College Bound

“I’m excited to start college. I love the sciences, it intrigues me. I want to use it to help people and change the world.”
We are so proud of Elizabeth, who just this past summer left the campus of Maryvale for the campus of Humboldt State University.
Elizabeth praised Maryvale’s staff for giving her the strength and courage to keep going when times were hard. She expressed gratitude for the Wellness activities that empowered her to take action to improve her life, find her voice and tell her story.
Through our partnership with the nonprofit filmmaking program, Kids in the Spotlight, she was able to write and star in her own short film called Staying True. Her film won the Best Picture award at the annual Kids in the Spotlight film festival in Hollywood.
Hollywood isn’t calling to Elizabeth, though; her love is science. As she says, “Science is my thing… you know, it’s life. I’m going to thrive in that industry.” We have no doubt she will.
Thank you for helping teenage girls like Elizabeth find hope and make the changes needed to achieve their dreams for a better future.
