Ordinary people doing extraordinary things
Angel H. has been an avid supporter of Maryvale and we are grateful for her dedication to our residential program.
Here she provides toys and other items donated by her car club (she actually donated twice this month!).
:
This picture is special for two reasons. One, because it's a car packed with items our youth need. And two, it's Laurie and her son Brian.
Brian has been helping his mom with their donations ever since he was a little boy. For years, he not only helped pack the car like a Tetris pro, he's also been hands-on when putting the items together and delivering.
Now, raise your hand if you agree a decade-long time lapse of this pose would've been so cool!
We were so excited to see Claudia P. donating an assortment of items...again.
Now in her 14th year, she has provided so much for the youth at Maryvale. We are honored she chooses us year after year. Thank you Claudia!
Thank you Coldwell Banker, Arcadia for the assortment of wonderful items you donated. Clothes, make up, water bottles, hygiene products, radios – it felt like if we needed it, you brought it.
Your generosity goes a long way!
We had a wonderful visit from Tri-Cities ROP who, in partnership with Pacific Western Bank, presented us with a monetary donation.
Tri-Cities ROP prepares students for college and careers by offering excellent career-technical education leading to employment, industry certification, or post-secondary education.
We are honored to have their support.
The Los Angeles Orphanage Guild held their annual Christmas party for our residents recently and it was A-MAZ-ING!
Held at the Brookside Country Club in Pasadena, our teens had a blast hanging out, doing the conga, getting gifts from Santa and dancing.
Thank you SoCal Bolt Riders for another epic event. Whether it's a "snowball" fight or a dance off, the roar of your bikes on our campus brings instant energy and smiles to our residents.
All of us at Maryvale truly appreciate everything you do!
What you see is a group of amazing kids from St. Gregory the Great Catholic School in Whittier who dropped off heartfelt donations of hygiene products, candy, gloves and more, for our residential program.
Deborah, our Enrichment Programs Manager, gave them a tour and talked about how our Wellness activities empower our teens and young women with the tools they need for successful futures.
Thank you to the kids at St. Gregory the Great!
Thank you Southern California Edison for braving the cold and rain to host an amazing Christmas party for our teens.
Our residents enjoyed the crossword puzzle, decorating their picture frames, the delicious Insta-worthy food and the gifts!
Your time and support has made this holiday season memorable, we are truly grateful.
Pasky and his team at Rosemead Grocery Outlet did it again.
Their July promotion, "Give $5, Get $5" Independence from Hunger Food and Donation Drive, was a huge success in our San Gabriel Valley area.
With more than a thousand dollars in monetary donations and 39 grocery bags collected benefiting our Community-Based program, thank you Pasky, Rosemead and our surrounding communities for your support.
A special message from Pasky:
We are so fortunate to have long-time supporters like Lee (pictured) and her husband Vong.
Despite their very busy schedules as owners of the Boiling Crab in Alhambra and Rosemead, they always find time to stop by and drop off donations all year round.
In addition to their recent donation of school supplies and various products, they also support our Restoring Hope Golf Tournament by donating Boiling Crab gift certificates. Thank you Lee and Vong for your continued support.
Just in time for the changing of the seasons.
Thank you Katherine and Jodi of FosterAll, a leader in the recruitment and support of foster/adopt families. They have over 100 Foster Care Programs in faith communities in the San Gabriel Valley region.
They donated pajamas, blankets and assorted activity items like crayons and toys. Our youth will surely appreciate and use these items when temperatures start to drop.
We truly appreciate FosterAll's ongoing support. In addition to donations such as these, they also do activities with our girls, such as their annual Christmas party.
The donations were beautiful, and the thought and effort behind it was heartwarming.
Thank you to the 3rd grade class and Student Council at St. Stephen Martyr School who brought Easter baskets for our children and families.
Over a couple of weeks, the students collected toys, coloring books and assorted items to place in the baskets. Asked why they chose this project, one student responded "because we want to be good brothers and sisters."
We are in awe of our community. Whether they are kids, teens or adults, everyone comes together to send the message that our children and families are truly special.
"We always want to invest in our youth. It's easy to get caught up in our own lives, but it's about giving to others," says Jesse. "We want to give back. Everyone deserves to feel special."
Thank you to Jesse, Diana and Cynthia of Soledad Enrichment Action and Ben (not pictured) from Urban 360, for their wonderful donation of Easter baskets. You can see the thoughtfulness of every creation as each basket was filled with different toys and items. Our children and families will truly have a Happy Easter thanks to Superheroes like them.
We had a great visit today from Union Bank Assistant VP, Branch Manager, Carolina who delivered a donation check.
We thank them for their support, and for helping get the New Year off to a great start.
Their team is also looking to volunteer. We look forwarding to seeing them at our events!
What keeps Mary going? Read her story in our blog, From S'mores to Skills.
Last week, they made candy-filled goodie bags that our children enjoyed during our Halloween Spooky Movie Night and bulk candy from See’s.
From all of us at Maryvale, thank you. You truly are Super Siblings!

It was a full month of hard work for a local class of third graders, but their acts of kindness paid off. With the money they raised they donated a beautiful supply of arts and crafts materials and toiletries for Maryvale's children. Thank you, New Horizons' kids!
Girl Scout Troop 5631 went to work in May and raised funds for a plethora of donations for Maryvale's girls and boys. Thank you for the welcome kits that included clothing, school supplies, towels and especially the personal notes of encouragement!
A large extended family with members as young as 2 and others reaching well into full adulthood made Maryvale their focus on a recent charitable trip. Celebrating the life of a family member who had passed, this compassionate and passionate group shopped for, and brought several carloads of, summertime gifts for Maryvale's children. We are so grateful for your heart and kindness.

We can't thank you enough for your return visit and toy drive benefitting our children during the holiday season. Each YMCA group created personalized "Giving Trees" located in the entryway of the locations. Each Christmas tree was adorned with homemade ornaments (made by the staff!) that included wish lists for every child. Can you hear the tearing of the wrapping paper now? You've helped make this holiday extra special. Thank you again for working together to bring happiness to our kids

At the heart of Maryvale are dedicated superheroes like Vicky and her husband Richard. For nearly 20 years Vicky has hand-stitched beautiful quilts for the children (with the assistance of Richard who does the finishing work). Thank you for always keeping Mayrvale's children in your thoughts!

She has a special gift in recognizing her students for their individuality, and makes each child feel special through their accomplishments, big and small!
It's #TBM (Throwback Monday!) and we are giving thanks for another fabulous Community Ambassador/Superhero team who visited one weekend! Self-named "Give Hope," this church group & friends came to Maryvale donating pool toys, beach towels, books, games and more. And even better yet: They brought pizza, sang songs with the children and enjoyed lunch with our Emergency Placement children. #MaryvaleSuperhero #GratefulHeart
Our superhero supporter of the week is Leo, a high school teen whose cousin grew up in the neighborhood, and his young sister Jessica. When the duo learned about the children living at Maryvale, they reached out to Leo's community and held a couple of yard sales and bought donations for our kids with the proceeds! Before embarking on their shopping trip, they took a look at our Emergency Placement Center wishlist and then purchased zip hoodie sweatshirts, African-American hair care products, Halloween costumes, undergarments, long-sleeved shirts and Halloween decorations. Maryvale was recently the grateful recipient of a thoughtful cash donation and a bright collection of 3Mgives items that are sure to keep the Agency operating in colorful efficiency. 3M is the creator of such popular office items as the colorful Post-It, rulers, tape, and other products. The office supplies, put to immediate use across all programs, found the most creative application in the hands of our children. Maryvale's kids used the bright, multi-patterned rolls of tape to create beautiful artwork. 3M donates cash and products to education and nonprofit organizations in communities in the United States where the company has a facility. #maryvalesuperhero#TraumaInformedCare #creative

Sister Martha Garcia (center) welcomes members of the San Gabriel Valley Chapter, Harley Owners Group (HOGs), which celebrated their 17th year of delivering Easter baskets to every Maryvale child.
